The Development Services Department seeks a BUSINESS ASSISTANCE COORDINATOR
to join the Building Services Division.

This Business Assistance Coordinator coordinates activities related to businesses, developers, and contractors by collaborating with the City's regulatory departments and divisions to improve customer service operations. The result of this is streamlining the permitting process and decreasing turnaround times. This position will be joining the Permit Solutions Team which includes two Business Assistance Coordinators (soon to be three), an Administrative Assistant, an Administrative Aide, and a Permit Services Technician.

This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Federation of Public Employees and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Federation of Public Employees.
The City offers a wide variety of benefits to employees. New hires are automatically enrolled in FRS.
This position is management category 3 which includes a vehicle allowance of $340 per month and eight (8) additional management leave days per calendar year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Serves as a liaison between businesses and the various City regulatory departments, related to business expansion, relocation or initial start-up of such businesses, in order to expedite the satisfactory resolution of issues.
- Serves as a point of contact to communicate (but not enforce) City regulations and construction regulations, as well as other department processes within the City, as they pertain to providing a ready and occupiable location for business operation. This includes coordination with the Building Services Division, Zoning Division, and the Business Tax Receipt Division, pertaining to the location and operation of a business.
- Maintains an ongoing review of the City's business regulatory requirements (e.g., zoning regulations, building permits)
- Collaborates with the City's regulatory departments in a continuous effort to improve customer service operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline processes, and to work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality business services
- Oversees efficient processing of construction plans for review, and inspections for alterations and development of business locations.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by management to assist business and residential clients relating to permitting, inspection and zoning regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Business or Public Administration, or related field; Three (3) years professional experience in construction, project management, permitting, business, business assistance or public administration. Additional qualifying experience in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education;Possess or be able to obtain a State of Florida Driver's license and have an acceptable driving record within 30 days of hire. Preferences:
- Professional experience in business assistance as it relates to Codes, Regulations, and Ordinances;
- Thorough knowledge of Zoning regulations, permit and inspection procedures, and property records search procedures;
- Must possess a general understanding of the Zoning, Permitting, and Licensing requirements for a business location in the City of Fort Lauderdale;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required;
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to be patient and understanding when working with potential clients who may not be familiar with business regulations and permitting requirements;
- Must be able to navigate efficiently through various software programs associated with building permits, zoning regulations and archived records.
Special Requirements:
Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work in some capacity after the declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Depending on the number of applications and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination to qualify. All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.
An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes.
