Starting Salary:
Crime Scene Investigator I: $19.99 - $25.49 per hour, depending on qualifications
Crime Scene Investigator II: $21.11 - $26.91 per hour, depending on qualifications
Crime Scene Investigator III: $22.29 - $28.42 per hour, depending on qualifications

NATURE OF WORK:

Performs responsible technical field and office work for complex crime scene investigations, documentation of the scene utilizing photography, videography, sketches, and 3D scanners; evidence identification/preservation/processing/collection/submission; producing detailed reports; testifying in court proceedings; and other duties as assigned. Employees assigned to this classification must complete an extensive training program to reach full proficiency in all areas. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Technology and Forensics Division Forensic Manager and performances maybe reviewed while in progress, upon completion and through direct on-site observation, review of reports, and conferences.

Minimum Requirements
CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR I : High school graduate or equivalent required with some related work experience; photography, crime scene processing or related areas are desired and a valid Florida Driver's License is required. Must pass reading comprehension and writing skills test. Also required to pass medical and psychological examinations and a thorough background check which includes polygraph.

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR II : Same as Crime Scene Investigator I, above, except requires one (1) year of crime scene experience as specified. College-level or technical training in fingerprint classification, photography, or related areas preferred. May be required to complete a practical exercise as determined by unit supervisor.

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR III : Same as Crime Scene Investigator II, above, except requires (2) two years crime scene experience as specified.

Reading Comprehension and Writing Skills Information:

  • Tests are administered by invitation only.
  • Only applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited via email. Invitations will be sent to the email address listed on the application.
  • Applicants will have (3) three days from the date of the invitation to complete the tests. Tests may be completed virtually or onsite.
  • Applicants are allowed one opportunity to pass the tests within a posting period or any given 30 days. Scores are valid for one year.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
