THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION WITH NO GUARANTEE OF A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS AND NO BENEFITS. WORKING ON A TEMP/SEASONAL CONTRACT WHICH CAN BE RENEWED ANNUALLY BASED ON PERFORMANCE AND BUSINESS NEED.

NATURE OF WORK:

Regulates, directs, and controls pedestrians at a designated school crossing while children are going to and from school by performing those duties assigned through the certification process.

Remains standing at the school crossing in full view of passing traffic for a specific period of time. Guides and directs pedestrians and school children through busy intersections utilizing issued safety gear and hand motions to ensure pedestrian safety. Remains alert for possible safety concerns at school crossings. Reports emergencies, missing or defective equipment, and traffic dangers to the Traffic Safety Unit. Records and reports license number and vehicle description of potentially dangerous vehicles. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Traffic Safety Supervisor and evaluated periodically by the Traffic Safety Supervisor and/or other designated certified trainers.

Minimum Requirements
Must be able to comprehend and communicate in English, both written and verbally. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings. Employee must be observant and safety-oriented. Employment is conditional on candidate's ability to pass a physical agility test, drug screening and complete the state mandated training for School Crossing Guards. Must obtain the Florida School Crossing Guard Certification and re-certify annually. Must have reliable transportation.
