Nature of Work:

Perform street or lane closures and other temporary traffic control duties for special events. Work is performed under the supervision of Transportation Engineering Division staff. Employees will perform work before, during and after special events.

Work Locations include assigned areas citywide with most occurring around special event facilities in downtown Orlando.

Work Schedule varies based on event schedule, staffing levels, and department needs, and primarily includes weekdays (Monday-Friday) with most events occurring in the evening with shifts beginning at 2:00 pm. Shift-end times can range from 10:30pm to 2:00am, depending on event type. Work schedule can also include occasional holidays and/or weekends per Division needs.

Examples of Duties
Responsibilities include

  • Set up, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic control devices (traffic cones, barricades, static and/or electronic signs) within the assigned area in accordance with a special event traffic control plan.
  • Communicate to other event traffic staff over a radio and working closely with law enforcement assigned to event.
  • Expected to take instruction from Transportation Engineering Division staff and be courteous to others.

Minimum Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent. Experience in Work Zone Traffic Control preferred. Florida Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) or Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification preferred.

The following are required:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions and in inclement weather.
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends and overtime on short notice.
  • Must be safety conscious as work is performed in the streets.
  • Requires ability to work in a fast-paced environment for one hour or more without breaks.
  • Must have steel toe shoes/boots.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Florida Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) or Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Valid Florida driver license required.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PROVIDED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
