NATURE OF WORK:
Performs skilled work with responsibility for the care, feeding, grooming, and cleaning of horses for the mounted patrol. Also responsible for the care and cleaning of horse stalls and equipment used with the horses and keeping stable area neat and clean. Work is performed under the direction of a Police Supervisor and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through discussions, observations, and evaluation of results achieved.
WORK SCHEDULE: Regular schedule is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6am to 4pm with a maximum of 28 hours per week, including some holidays. Subject to change based on agency requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Ability to read, write, and follow instructions with some experience in the care, feeding, and grooming of horses and stable upkeep. High school diploma desired. Must pass polygraph examination. Of necessity, the screening process is very selective. Only candidates with clean criminal histories who have been drug-free for a minimum of one year will be considered. Florida driver license required. Must be able to lift heavy bales of hay, feed, and equipment; and handle and exercise a 1500-pound horse, which includes standing, walking, pulling, pushing, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.
COMPLETE AND DETAILED WORK HISTORY REQUIRED. ONLINE SUBMISSIONS MUST INCLUDE ALL WORK SINCE AGE 18 OR PAST TEN YEARS WHICHEVER IS LESS AND MUST ACCOUNT FOR ALL PERIODS OF UNEMPLOYMENT. CANDIDATES SUBMITTING INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE SCREENED NOT QUALIFIED.
VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
