THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT CITY OF PLANTATION EMPLOYEES EMPLOYED IN THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT. APPLICANTS MUST BE EITHER IN A FULL OR PART TIME CAPACITY AS A CITY OF PLANTATION EMPLOYEE IN THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO APPLY.

This is a non-exempt position, which is manual or semi-skilled work of more than average difficulty in the construction, landscape, maintenance and repair of properties. This work often involves the use of skills acquired as a Maintenance Worker I.

An employee in this classification is responsible for the performance of a wide variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks, and may require some acquired skills in the use of hand tools and power
tools. An employee in this classification may supervise employees of a lesser rank. Work is normally performed under the supervision of a Foreman/Crewleader or higher classified employee who issues work instructions. Work is reviewed by the immediate supervisor; constant supervision is not necessary for routine and repetitive tasks.

Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Examples of Duties

May operate sprayers and related equipment for weed and pest control.

May perform semi-skilled tasks requiring the use of hand tools and perform manual work in conjunction with job assignments.

May line playing fields, drag, water, weed and maintain landscaped area of sport fields.

May perform semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical and landscaping tasks in performing general maintenance of municipal buildings, equipment and property.

May assist a higher level tradesman in the accomplishment of skilled trade projects.

May perform duties in conjunction with City streets; lay roads, parking lot facilities.

May operate a truck, roller, grader, tractor and various mowing equipment.

May repair and maintain playground equipment to keep proper operating condition.

May take down, move and eret portable, benches, seats and tents or equipment, as needed.

May perform duties in conjunction with City street maintenance such as erecting signs and barricades, clearing debris.

May supervise personnel of a lower classification.

May participate in planting, mowing, watering, cleaning and trimming municipal parks and grounds; planting trees and shrubbery; operating equipment necessary in completing assigned tasks.

Exercises care and safety in use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks and knowledge of safety rules and regulations prescribed by the City.

Executes purchase orders authorized by the department director.

This position does not have final procurement authority.

Performs related work as required and as directed.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and practices used in general maintenance and landscaping.

Knowledge of athletic field maintenance, related ground maintenance where the position requires.

Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining municipal buildings.

Considerable knowledge of methods and tools used in cement finishing where the position requires.

Knowledge of the traffic laws involved in the operation of various vehicles; and knowledge of the City streets layout and location of municipal departments.

Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time under hot and humid conditions.

Ability to use equipment powered by motor and other hand tools.

Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license where position requires.

Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain work quality.

Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks to municipal property.

Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to complete work assignments correctly.

Ability to assist the City in carrying out a hurricane plan to completion.

Ability to fill out and complete incident and accident report forms.

Skill in the use of safe operation of equipment used in completing assigned tasks and knowledge of safety rules as required by the City.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

One (1) year experience in construction, maintenance and repair work or other fields related to position assignment.

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.

LiveScan Process
Incumbents in this job class are required to undergo a Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida. The screening includes a photograph, fingerprint-based searches of criminal records nationally, and is performed using the electronic LiveScan process.

Supplemental Information

This is a designated "Recovery" classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
