POSITION SUMMARY

Provides low to mid-level technical support installing, configuring, and troubleshooting City technology including but not limited to software, hardware, mobile computing and communication devices, vehicle technology, and video cameras/systems.

This job classification is in Management Category IV for benefits purposes, which includes five (5) additional Management Vacation days per calendar year and a monthly Employee Expense Allowance of $120.00.

This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Federation of Public Employees and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Federation of Public Employees.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Installs, configures, and troubleshoots desktop/laptop operating systems, user software and hardware peripherals
  • Responds to support requests submitted through help desk, customer contact, and other support tiers or supervisor assignments
  • Investigates, diagnoses, and resolves problems for Level 1 and Level 2 systems, database, network, mobile data, and security teams before escalation
  • Creates, updates, and deploys computer images, software, and security application packages used to distribute and update consistency throughout the corporate computing environment
  • Stays current with new technology, applications, trending strategies and innovations within the Information Technology industry
  • Assists with efforts in deploying new modules, interfaces, or advanced features of existing technology systems. This may be accomplished independently or by assisting other personnel.
  • Serve on the 24-hour after hours support helpline on a rotational basis
  • Performs related work as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Additional qualifying work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. At least two (2) years of experience in administering and supporting computer workstations, peripherals, and associated operating systems. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of the required experience. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire. Depending on assigned division, experience with mobile data technologies may be required.
Special Requirements:
This position requires Holiday, night and/or weekend work in order to perform many duties. Employees in this class may be required to be on call for after hours support and may be called in to work before, during, or after public safety related emergencies.An in-depth pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection and onboarding process, as this position is deemed security sensitive.
Preferences:

  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and/or Microsoft MSCA certifications
  • Experience in supporting local government and public safety technologies
  • OS and software deployment experience

Essential Employees: May be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine who will be required to work.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and/or access areas where limited space is available.

HOW TO APPLY/ VETERAN INFORMATION

Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants may be required to take a medical examination and/or pass a drug screening prior to appointment.

An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form ( J204 ).
