THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION WITH NO GUARANTEE OF A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS AND NO BENEFITS. WORKING ON A TEMP/SEASONAL CONTRACT WHICH CAN BE RENEWED ANNUALLY BASED ON PERFORMANCE AND BUSINESS NEED.

NATURE OF WORK:

Performs traffic control duties at City events. Employees will be guiding and controlling vehicular traffic at streets and intersections before, during and after city events. Responsibilities include directing traffic and warning drivers of hazards using signs and hand signals; directing or escorting pedestrians across streets, stopping traffic as necessary; communicating traffic rules and other information to pedestrians; reporting unsafe or suspicious behavior to the appropriate authorities; learning the location and purpose of street and traffic signs within the assigned area; and distributing traffic control signs and markers at designated points. Expected to communicate specific instructions clearly, firmly, and courteously. Applicants should be in good physical condition with ability to see, hear, and respond quickly to hazards in the performance of their duties. Must be able to speak, read, and understand the English language, and have a general knowledge of directions and locations in City of Orlando and surrounding areas. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The typical work environment is primarily outdoors and involves exposure to extremes of heat, cold, rain, humidity, and traffic hazards. Requires ability to stand for long periods of time.

WORK SCHEDULE varies based on event schedule, staffing levels, and department needs, and includes nights, holidays, and weekends.

Minimum Requirements
Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions and in inclement weather. Must be safety conscious as work is performed in the streets. Requires ability to work in a fast-paced environment for one hour or more without breaks. Must be 18 years of age or older. Florida ID required. Must pass a criminal background check and physical including drug screen.

Must be willing to work nights, weekends and overtime on short notice.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
