Nature of Work:

Performs responsible technical, supervisory and/or administrative work assisting in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, collecting samples, insure sludge processing and hauling, performing laboratory tests, inspecting and adjusting equipment, and maintaining records. Perform Treatment Plant Operator-Chief duties in the absence of the Treatment Plant Operator-Chief. Work performed requires the employee to possess technical expertise gained through previous work experience. Considerable initiative and independent judgment are necessary in performing technical and supervisory assignments, and in training operators in lower classifications. Work is performed under the supervision of a Treatment Plant Operator Chief and performance is reviewed through analyses of plant records and reports, conferences, direct observation and results obtained.
Required to be on-call as needed.

Minimum Requirements
High school or vocational school graduate, plus five years experience operating a wastewater treatment plant; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Some lead or supervisory experience preferred. Must pass wastewater aptitude test given by the City of Orlando at the time of interview. Possession of current state of Florida Wastewater Operator "A" Certificate for wastewater treatment required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Florida driver license required at time of employment.
  • Must be able reliably to be contacted in case of an emergency work situation at all times via City issued cell phone.
  • Must pass annual respirator physical.
  • No facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face piece:
    Employees must be clean shaven at the start of their assigned work shift.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
